Matthew 28:1-10 The Easter Story

The resurrection of Jesus is one of the most remarkable stories
ever to fall on human ears.
Verse 1 "..as it began to dawn." An EARLY START
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to the sepulchre, at
the crack of dawn. Fearless and faithful - women setting an example
of how their faith was a means of loyalty, love and lasting
commitment. Overcoming what must have been a deep and moving
emotional experience to visit the sepulchre where their Friend had been
taken. This was as soon as the light of day arose -dawn- they made
an EARLY START- nothing was going to stop their positive and fruitful
relationship. Nothing would draw asunder their compassion and
passion.
Verse 2 "..stone from the door"- An ENORMOUS STONE
Nothing is impossible for God and such is His grace, that His people
can turn this life's stumbling blocks into stepping stones. No matter
how enormous these obstacles appear to the frail human mind. We
simply cannot sink beneath God's love!
He can remove the scales from our eyes. He can remove the dross
from our lives. He causes us NOT to look inward, but outward and
upward.
Such is His power nothing is too enormous that He cannot move. He
can slay the giants!
Verse 6 "He is not here." An EMPTY SEPULCHRE
Not even death, nor the grave could contain Him. What power - He
EMPTIED death of its sting. He EMPTIED the grave of its victory. He
EMPTIED the sepulchre of its claim, "..He is risen." Note the past-tense
in verse 6b "..see the place where the Lord lay."
No other religion has this boast...The Christian has a risen Saviour!
What a resounding note of triumph!
Easter falls once a year by the calendar's pattern, but for the Christian
every day should be an Easter experience.
